After having studied physics Bert Struve obtained his Ph.D. from the University of Hamburg on tunable solid-state lasers. Afterwards he worked for 10 years in the field of optics and laser design for different companies. Since 1995 he is professor for laser design at the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer, where he actively took part in the development of diploma, bachelor and master study courses in lasers and optics. His research interests are, e.g., Neodymium microchip lasers, characterization of laser crystals, design of diode-pumped solid-state laser resonators. He has collaborated with numerous laser companies. Besides many papers on specific subjects he authored an introductory textbook on laser technology.
